Restaurateur Danny Meyer will open three restaurants - including a Blue Smoke and a Shake Shack - in ground floor of Embassy Suites hotel on North End Avenue next year.
Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group announced that it will be opening three restaurants in a 14-story building adjacent to Goldman Sachs’ new Battery Park City headquarters downtown. The eateries - a Blue Smoke, Shake Shack, and yet-to-be named third establishment - will all open sometime next year in the ground floor of the Embassy Suites hotel, which was sold to Goldman nearly four years ago.
“Residents want a mix that will appeal to families and I think this plan does that,” said Jim Cavanaugh, president of the Battery Park City Authority, of resident reaction to the three restaurants. “The neighborhood has grown up, and this (restaurant plan) is reflective of that.”
The new Blue Smoke will be the second location of the popular Flatiron district barbecue spot. The newest outpost for the Shake Shack, the burger joint that routinely draws lines of people waiting patiently for Shack Stacks and frozen custards, will be the sixth in the city. The third restaurant for the tower at 102 North End Ave. has yet to be named, but will be more upscale.
In a release announcing the openings, Mr. Meyer touted the area’s potential.
“My colleagues and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to invest in a location with as much history, momentum and opportunity as Battery Park City,” he said in the release.
